There are numerous ways to become a Walking Witness.

First, try and look for opportunities that you may have missed before. Pay close attention to the expressions on the faces of your cashiers, business associates, people you see at work, or just those you come in contact with on your daily routine. Then, if you feel a tug inside that one of these people are struggling to smile or have joy, use this opportunity to insert a kind word, offer prayer, share your testimony etc. Being relational opens the door for more conversation. If you find it awkward to initiate a conversation, please note the following tips:

  • While you and your spouse are eating dinner, make it a point to acknowledge your server and ask, “How are you?” Then, when your server brings your food, say, “My spouse and I are going to pray over our meal and would like to know if there is anything specific you would like us to pray about?”. Many times, your server will tear up and most always will have something for you to pray about.
  • While checking out at your local grocery store, clothing store, etc., acknowledge your cashier and look for ways to share Jesus with him or her. You can say, I am going to go home, relax, and soon go to bed. I wonder, is there is anything I can remember you in prayer for as I say my evening prayer?”. This will give the person an opportunity to talk about their faith and you will be surprised what people will say. A lot of times, they want prayer for others, rather than themselves.
  • Save up twenty dollars or so on your debit card. Go to your local coffee shop and leave your debit card with the cashier with instructions to pay for the next four or five customers coffee. When the customer finds out there is no charge, he or she will be naturally curious as to why. When they come over to your table or acknowledge you in whatever way, tell them, “I just wanted to bless you and show you the love of Jesus Christ.” Selfless acts of kindness can only come through the love of Christ; which no one can deny is very powerful and will open the conversation to present the Gospel in a non-invasive way.
  • Form a group of six or so people in your church, neighborhood, subdivision, etc., and buy a lot of scotch tape. Go door to door (by twos, of course) and hand it out as a blessing during the holidays. You can do the same with hot cocoa, or anything that you feel would show the love of Christ.
  • Form a couple teams of four people and go to a neighborhood and offer to rake leaves for free. People will undoubtedly ask you why you are doing it, and there is your chance to share Jesus’ love with them.
  • Come up with your own unique strategy to present the Gospel to those in your community. Never be ashamed of the “good news” because someone is waiting to hear it.

Whatever method you choose, the goal is to be a going, loving, giving, selfless example of Jesus Christ in your world!
